Self-storage Units and Why Size Matters

As with any self-storage facility, here in Nairobi we often get enquiries about how big our storage units are. People here are so used to having to rent entire warehouses/godowns or containers, that they are often surprised when we tell them that our unit sizes start at 3m2 (a large closet). You can see them takin in the information and thinking of all of the things that they could use the self-storage unit for.

When you are looking for storage for your personal or business use, here are a few things to think about when it comes to storage size.

Variety of sizes: When visiting a storage facility you should be able to find a variety of sizes for you to choose from. At Storage Central, for example, unit sizes range from 3m2 to 20m2 (they are all 2.5m high). The more sizes to choose from, the better for you because you can find the perfect size to fit your specific needs.

Cost: One of the greatest advantages of self-storage is that you only pay for the space you need. Why pay for warehouse space or a 20 foot container if all you need is 7m2? This is good for anyone’s wallet, whether you are looking to store your household items or using storage for your business.

Flexibility: Although a self-storage facility may offer units from 3m2 to 20m2, this does not mean that you cannot rent more space. For example, if you are in need of 27m2 of storage, you can rent a 20m2 and a 7m2, or two 10m2 and a 7m2 or any combination that works for you.

Businesses in particular like the ability to store different items in different units, which helps with efficiency and can creates less confusion. We have a solar company that rents storage units for each project they manage. This ensures that they don’t mix parts and are more efficient in the field.

So when you visit your next storage facility, make sure to ask about the range of storage sizes the facility offers so that you can take advantage of better cost savings for your personal or business account. The size of the storage unit does matter.
